Brand description

The German company K.A. Schmersal GmbH was founded in 1945. Initially, Kurt Andreas and Ernst Schmersal were involved in designing and manufacturing components for elevators, and later, in 1947, they started producing electromechanical switches. During the economic boom of the 1950s, Schmersal also experienced dynamic growth. Based on specific customer needs and considering changing standards, the company developed its offerings to soon become a competent partner for German machine builders and production lines. The range already included the world's widest program of electromechanical switches and electronic devices for industry. The company, initially family-owned, transformed in the second half of the 1990s into a group of companies operating worldwide. Schmersal acquired the company steute (Löhne) in 1994 and the company Elan (Wettenberg) in 1997. The group's production facilities now also exist in Brazil and China.
